Boek met werk van hedendaags kunstenaar Ton of Holland, die twee technieken in zijn werk gebruikt. Eerst schildert hij op schildersdoek,
dan borduurt hij.
Ton gebruikt de platte steek en voegt soms parels als decoratief element toe. Bewust wordt gesproken over
schilderijen, niet over borduurwerken, want hij werkt op schildersdoek en niet op borduurgaas. Dat maakt zijn werk bijzonder
binnen de internationale kunstwereld.
Naast reproducties van het werk toont het boek de denk- en gevoelswereld van Ton of Holland: hoe verloopt zijn creatief denk-
en werkproces? Via schetsjes, inspiratiebronnen, achterkanten van schilderijen en uitvergrote details van werken krijgt de lezer
inzicht. Niet alles is uitgelegd: er moet voldoende voor de verbeelding overblijven.
Ton's boek CONTEMPORARY EMBROIDERY is bijzonder van vormgeving doordat de kunstenaar met vormgever Dennis Koot het totale visuele
beeld heeft bepaald. Twee essays (als lichtkrant vormgegeven) bevat dit boek: de hoofdredacteur van het blad KUNSTBEELD, Roos
van Put, geeft in het boek een kunsthistorische interpretatie, en Matthias Duyves geeft een cultureel-sociologische visie over
