Magnificent in his fedora and sharp suit, John Hurt reprises the role of homosexual, writer and raconteur Quentin Crisp in this made-for-television film, which picks up where The Naked Civil Servant left off. While the earlier movie explored the prejudices Crisp faced as a flamboyant homosexual in England in the Thirties, the movie An Englishman in New York depicts Crisp's later life following his emigration to the United States in 1981.
